How to get published in Rhapsody Magazine

You want to get published so all your family and friends, and the diaspora can see your work? If your answer is yes, read on. Our vision is for Rhapsody Magazine to be the premiere source of exposure for up and coming writers and artists. If you have a definite interest in creative writing, commercial art and/or photography, then Rhapsody Magazine can put you on the map. It's probably not as hard as you think, so listen up, we're about to break it down for all those that aren't famliar with how our process works....

1. Experience Life

You know nobody does it quite like you do, and that's what we want you to tell us about....the world through your eyes. Your rhythm and romance, your inspiration and humor and your joy. We want you to experience your creativity, however that may be.

2. Document it

When you get that urge to pick up your pen, pencil, marker, crayon, spray paint, lipstick, camera or whatever you choose to capture your experience with...go get it, write it down, picture it, draw it or whatever it takes. Creativity is an energy. If you do not use it, it will flow to another creative being just like it came to you. There are no themes, so you can write about whatever you want. We love your attention to detail, your off the cuff humor, your eroticism, your inspiration and your solidarity and strength.

3. Submit it (don't forget your contact information and 15 minutes of Fame)

Alot of people that don't submit their work think that their work is not good enough...Ironically, alot of those that we do publish say "I didn't think my work was good enough to be published" What's the difference? The people that get published, try anyway...You can't win if you don't play! We receive about 200 entries per issue, and we publish between 60-80 pieces. For all the technical policies, check our Entry Submission Policy and Copyright Information. You can submit your works by email or by snail mail, however entries are not eligible unless you provide all appropriate contact information.

It is very important when you receive this letter, if you are a featured author, that you verify the spelling of your name (or if you wanted to use a pen name) If you do not tell us of your corrections, we will print the information as in the letter. All featured writers and artists will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in which they are published.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rhapsody?

Rhapsody is a quarterly literary magazine that is a compilation of poetry, prose, commentary and artwork. We showcase the talents of nationally selected writers and artists based on originality and content. Our goal is to publish a diverse and creative array of works to promote both the artists and this publication. Rhapsody is a soapbox of sorts upon which visual and literary artists express themselves. The artists retain all rights of the works submitted and authorial anonymity is preserved throughout the review process. The opinions and beliefs of the artists are not necessarily a reflection of our staff.
Our purpose is to stimulate consciousness.

What is the significance of the title?

Rhapsody literally means...any ecstatic or extravagantly enthusiastic utterance in writing or speech. The subtext, "Creative Condensation for Literary and Visual Artists" refers to this magazine as a compilation of different artists' work...and like the bio says...

OUR PURPOSE IS TO STIMULATE CONSCIOUSNESS!

How do we solicit writers?

We solicit (primarily amateur) writers via the internet & poetry readings. The only requirements to meet are those specified in the Entry Submission Policy and Copyright Information

Are there any quarterly THEMES?

Usually there are no themes, as we do not wish to limit the writers/artists. However, we do not publish extreme profanity or vulgarity.

How do I submit my work?

You can submit work via e-mail or postal (snail) mail. Be sure to include the correct contact information with your entries, and your "15 minutes of Fame". Entries are not eligible for publishing unless you provide all necessary contact info. (name, address, phone, email) Click HERE for more details...

What is my "15 minutes of Fame?"

Your "15 minutes" is 4 lines in the back of the issue you are featured in to claim your city and state, your favorites, what you do when nobody's looking and your email address or website.

Bob Jargon - Poemboro, North Carolina
Favorites: writin, readin, surfin, watchin the day go by
When Nobody's Looking: I make secret runs to the Krisp Kreme store for…donuts!

How will I know if my work is selected for an upcoming issue?

All authors that are select to be featured are notified via snail mail on official stationary, and e-mail or phone call follow-up. If we cannot contact the author, we do not print the work. All entries that are not used are archived for future use. The notification process remains the same, no matter when the piece is featured.

Who retains the copyright?

All writers retain the copyrights to their work, even if they have not filed for copyright on their own. However, if the particular work was created in a significant time BEFORE being submitted to Rhapsody, it may in the author's best interest to pursue their own copyright with the original date of the work.
